A conversation with Dr. Andrés Moreno Estrada

We are honored to share a compelling conversation with Dr. Andrés Moreno Estrada, a renowned geneticist whose work is transforming how we understand human diversity, ancestry, and health. In this episode, we had the opportunity to explore both his personal journey and his groundbreaking scientific work, including the innovative projects underway at his biolab in Mexico.

During the interview, Dr. Moreno Estrada reflects on his early life and academic path, sharing how his curiosity and commitment to science led him to become a leader in the field of genetics. He speaks candidly about the challenges and opportunities he encountered along the way, offering valuable insight for students, educators, and anyone interested in science and research careers.

We also dive into his current and upcoming projects, many of which focus on expanding genetic research beyond traditionally studied populations. From large-scale genomic studies to collaborative international efforts, Dr. Moreno Estrada explains how his team is working to make genetics more inclusive, ethical, and socially relevant, particularly for Latin American and underrepresented communities.

Dr. Andrés Moreno Estrada leads his research at the Laboratorio de Genómica Evolutiva Humana y de Poblaciones(Human Evolutionary and Population Genomics Laboratory), which is part of the Advanced Genomics Unit at Cinvestav(Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional) in Mexico. He is also associated with the Human Population Genomics Lab within the National Laboratory of Genomics for Biodiversity (LANGEBIO) in Irapuato, where much of the large-scale genomic research, including the Mexican Biobank project, takes place.

Finally, the conversation touches on the latest news and developments in genetics, helping listeners understand how recent discoveries may impact medicine, identity, and society at large.
